I did a searcha nd it seems like a few people are runnign them in the rears of their Mavericks.

I gotta couple questions if you guys/gals don't mind sharing.

How many of you are running them?

How long have you been running it?

Does it seem like it is holding up pretty well?

How hard are you punishing it?

and in your opinion does it make a lot of clicking and clanking?

I don't really care about mild noise. I drive my car at least 3 -5 days a week so I am looking for longevity. I mean if it last a few years and I have to replace it then that is fine for the price. I'll probably only be pounding on it really hard a few times a year and I don't see where I would be putting more that 300 HP to it anytime in the near future....

So For those guys and gals running the powertrax in you rear, chime in and let me know what you think.. I already know one member here has had his for at least a year judging by the posts I found and I don't see him as being easy on it since I have seen pictures of his tires smoking in a parking lot hahahaha...

I am really up in the air about this. I am trying to decide between the Powertrax and a couple other options out there, and this powertrax unit seems like it is along the lines of the detroit ratcheting locker, but for less $$$

71gold is running a PowerTrax, and I run an Auburn. Both are holding up really well.

Thanks, I knew 71 Gold is running one that is where I first heard about the Powertrax, and I looked back in the posts (did a search) and it looks like he has been running his since at least march of last year, maybe longer so I take that as a good thing.

My Bro-in-Law is running a limited slip in his 88 mustang in an 8.8 rear and he loves it, gets both tires spinning everytime and says he wouldn't go with anything else but I think I am leaning toward this Powertrax unit. It looks like it installs very much like a minispool but works like a ratcheting locker... If I can just find out how durable and dependable they are for an almost everyday driver I will buy one. If I find out that the Powertrax doesn't last in a daily driver I guess I'll be going with a limited slip unit.

They are both basically the same price if I stick with my stock gears I can get the limited slip carrier for between $269 - $329 brand new.

I really can't wait to get whichever one I am going to get and get it installed. It's been a looooong time since I have done a 2 wheel burnout and felt the rearend "J" Stroke and keep on smoking them tires.....

I think for sheer brute strength and ease of installation, I would go with the PowerTrax.

WOW I just also realized something...Powertrax has two different units

one is the 1810 which is $275 at Summit

    and this unit

Powertrax 92-0680-2800 that is $477 at summit also

The Traction Lok Carrier that I was referring to that was $269 was a used/rebuilt unit and it is a 28 spline 8 inch carrier that you have to supply the ring and pinion gear and install it in your own rear end. It was not a new one..The new ones I was looking at were running about the same as what everyone else was looking at $369

I'm have been using a 92-0680-2800 powertrax locker for about a year now. Seems to be holding up fine and I am not easy on it. I could hear it when I first put it in but once it broke in I only hear every now and then locking or unlocking.

Now this has got me wondering just what the difference in the two units are.. I guess it is time to call Summit and find out.

I certainly wouldn't mind hear from any of the resident gear head as to what the difference is if anyone knows

Thanks for the reply. I just had to tell you that I really like the car in your signature line.... It reminds me of a cross between the blue one in my signature line and a 1970 grabber I had before that, that the guy I bought it from had put the 71-72 grabber hood on. The blue one in my sig line (even though I don't have it anymore) is still the best car I ever owned and the Blue 70 grabber before that was probably second on that list, and the one in your sig line looks like it ties those two cars together perfectly

    Thanks...

The "cheaper" locker retains your stock side gears, the other one replaces everything inside the carrier.

ive installed those on several trucks (the more expensive one) and on the lighter ones, the locker is really obvious and even can be really noisy. Its hit or miss on if they are noisy and stay noisy. the heavyer the vehical the less obvious the locker is. i a mav that is light i would only run one if i was drag racing and street driving alot. if you primarly street driving go with a posi style carrier. The auburn is really good, just not rebuildable. it has a prorated exchange program that lets you exchange it if it wears out for less cost than a new one. the auburn is usally a "tighter" than a clutch type posi like a track lock. ive rebuit a few diffs with the cheaper style locker that reuses the side gears but have not driven or had any feed back on them. during the rebuild the locker and side gears apeared to be holding up well. If you can stand having clicking and a ocasional bang then go ahead and try the locker.

Thanks that helps a lot..... Still can't make up my mind on which rearend to go with but that info does help the thought process.... I guess I need to get this figured out as the drag strip opens in the next couple days and the Bro-in-law and I are supposed to go down and run-what-we-brung/test and tune around the middle of March... Looks like I might be bringing and open differential to the first couple tests and tunes hahahaha
