    Howdy and :Welcome:
A linkage that popped out would be easy to see. Under the hood, at the base of the steering column is most likely where it would come out. Check the linkage where it connects to the 2 arms. Make sure the bushings are good. Then follow them down to the transmission shift arms and make sure they are still attached. By your description, I believe your problem sounds more like it could be the shift tube, which is inside the steering column. If so, you will have to find one out of another car and completely remove and disassemble the steering column to fix.

Howdy & :Welcome:.......With the motor not running, Can you find that lost gear? If so, most likely to be a syncronizer in the tranny. Keep us posted!:bouncy:

As dennis ( Mavaholic ) said check linage under the hood to trans . It sound like either a broken shift collar or shift tube if this the case your best bet will be got a stearing column from a standard trans parts car or from one of the board members or change it to a floor shift .

The collar/shift tubes can be hard to find, usually it's easier to just convert it to floor shift. If you can find a good working column(has to be for a manual)that would be the easiest way to go if you don't want to cut up your floor for floor shift.:tiphat:Oh yea:Welcome:

    Hello

I would like to try to help,or at least get you started in the right direction. I had a similar problem on a 77 p-up. If there are no visible signs og broken pins, or linkage under the hood ,where the links are attached to the column, or underneath at the tranny, then its internal on the column.I believe this may be the problem. I ended up having to replace the column,it was easier than taking it apart to repair the shift mechanism. Hope this helped. Maybe consider putting in a floor shift. Jake
