How Do You Tell Apart A 302 From A 302 Boss, I Have Codes From Engine But Cannot Find Them, Does Anyone Know A Site?
If you have a Maverick, it's not a Boss 302 engine. They never put a Boss 302 engine in any Mavericks or Comets. Not to mention the Boss 302 engine is a very rare, very valuable, and highly sought after engine. If your car had a Boss 302 engine in it, a LOT of people would have already known about it and there is no way it would be in your possession. I don't mean to sound harsh...just stating the facts. By the way...Welcome to the board!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Boss_302_engine Like Ray said, chances are extremely slim your car has a BOSS 302 engine, and if it does, you're going to have to prove it to us with pictures. What are the codes on the engine?
For the record, in case you have one...not that it came stock in a Maverick...the Boss can be identified externally by screw in freeze plugs, 351 cleveland style heads, different valve covers, it would be a four barrel, four bolt mains...etc.
Quick and easy. Windsor 302 or 351 have 6 valve cover bolts and Cleveland and Boss 302 have 8. - Matt
its not in my mavrick i have 3 mavricks they all have a 200 so me and my brother split the price on a juncked mustang he took the 351 heads and voul covers he is a mechanic and then showed me the numbers on the block and told me to look them up he said just beacouse they have 351 heads it does not make it a boss. so we dont know if this engine is a boss but i would like to slap it in my mavrick regardless. dont know how to upload pictures but if you can help i might be able to send you some pictures of it.
If it is a Boss Block it will have 4 bolt main caps on the three inside mains. And as mentioned it will have threaded core plugs.
Okay... think. Did your block have the thermostat housing as part of it, or was the thermostat on the intake manifold? The upper radiator hose... did it go to the block or the intake? You let me know that, and that will help greatly. Your bro is right... just because it has 351 heads doesn't make it a Boss. It could have 351w heads, it could be a 351w or 351c, it could be a regular 302 that someone added 351c heads to. This doesn't make it a Boss, but it makes it some sort of clone with no extra value to it above the parts themselves. Folks call a homemade 302 with C heads either "street boss" or "bogus boss".
