I want to remove the tracks from both of my front door's window glass. I need to clean the glass and channels plus a couple of the little square pads, that protect the glass from the steel channel, are broken or missing. Are these square pads and the blueish connectors available from a Maverick or Mustang source? I am using later model doors on my 69.5 if that matters. Plus is there a trick to removing the connectors to get the channels off? I just don't want to break the glass. Thanks all.
mav 1970 The blue connector are a plastic drive rivet .To remove the metal part from the window take a 3/16 punch or phillips screw driver an push the center out ( through ) the drive rivet an you can remove the channel from the window . If your lucky you can reuse the rivet if you break the rivet your local auto glass shop might have them or ford dealer or mustang parts place. As for the square rubber pads you are talking about mine didn't have them but you can make them out some cork or like materal . hope this helps JAY
I went to Michael's and bought a sheet of felt with the self stick pad on the back. I just cut up strips and went all the way across the track. They are the right thickness and cut very easy. Use an Xacto knife to cut out the holes. I just finished doing my windows. You might want to take out the regulator assembly and soak it to dissolve dried up grease. I went ahead and took my time and cleaned the whole assembly, then used lithium grease on all sliding and wear surfaces.
Thanks guys. I had a pretty good idea that the center piece was a retainer pin but it makes sense to ask first just to be sure. 38 year old parts are getting harder to find when you break them. I put a 1/2" socket under the head of the fastener and pushed the pin out with a small srew driver. The center pin dropped right into the socket. One fastner is broke so I'll have to search around for a replacement. Actually, I'm going to Las Vegas in a month or so and I needed an excuse to drag the wife to Mustang Depot. I told her that they have slot machines.
