I read here a while back that you could swap a fox body diveshaft into the Mav (2 door) only needing to swap the slip spline from the mav's driveshaft onto the fox's. Well I picked one up (fox driveshaft) and have a problem/question.

The U joint on the fox drive shaft is longer/bigger that the mav's u joints. How do you get around this?

The problem I'm having is that the fox u joint won't seat into the u joint carrier on the 8". It had locator tbas and the fox u joints stick out past the tabs. I had planned on buying new U joints anyway, but obviously the fox ones wont fit. And It looks like the mav ones would sit too far into the yoke on the fox driveshaft.

What to do, what to do????
    Thanks guys

mine seems to be pretty heavy duty feeling. I don't know what it's made of, it's pretty heavy, I think it's out of an '89 GT. Seems to be a bigger diameter than a stock maverick one. About the u-joints I'm not sure. Mine's mustang from tranny back:huh:

The fox driveshafts are steel. You can use the stock mustang one or the FMS aluminum for the same DIRECT replacement of your maverick one.
The solution to the u-joint is get a 3 1/2" to 3 1/4" u joint. I have done this already.

Can you clarify what you mean with those measurements. Do you mean 3 1/2" x 3 1/4" u joint?

Or do you mean I need a 3 1/2" to 3 1/4" like as in a scale of sizes?

    Thanks

Eddie what he is saying is that they make a u joint that fits your application with a span one way of 3 1/2 to fit the Mustang joint side and a span of 3 1/4 to match the Maverick yoke.

Exactly. I bought a good quality spicer brand. The autozone fools wont know wtf, so go to driveshaft shop or maybe napa. Dont bother telling them "what vehicle", say I want a 3 1/2" by 3 1/4" HD joint.
Dont forget to grease after install.
