I'm ready to order a pair of 67-73 Mustang upper control arms for my 74 302 from Mustangs Plus, but thought I'd ask:

Are they a bolt-on or are modifications needed?
    Thanks

I think they are a direct bolt in. Not really sure.......Someone else will chime in here

What I have read on the site here is that 71-73 Stang stuff works best.

There are slight differences over the different Mustang years, but I think they all center around "3 bolt" or "4 bolt" ball joints.

Anyway, the stuff bolts in, but you would need to order accessory parts, or future repair parts, to match the arms, not your car.

Edit: You do mean upper A-arm?
    If not, then nevermind.

Mustangs Plus has their own brand (grab a trak) complete upper A arms including ball joint and bushings and shaft for about $75 each. Can't even buy the parts to rebuild 'em yourself for that at most places. A different parts house listed similar items for about $275 each.

    Site:

    A Arm page:

From what I read in the 74 Ford factory manuals, there can be some problems with trying to repair the existing A Arms... for example, if they're warped even a little, they are supposed to be tossed. That might just be "the factory" talking, but at this price....

Are you going to do the 'Arning Drop'?

Some call it the "Shelby Drop"... Shelby popularized the mod by doing it to the production Stangs he converted to Shelby Stangs in 1965.

The mod is where you move the upper A-arm mounts roughly an inch down from the stock position.
Just involves redrilling the 2 holes in each shock tower.

It improves the stock Ford geometry and lowers the car around 3/4".

    It came from here:
(This site sells the metal templates too)
When I ever do my front end rebuild on either of my Mavs, I intend to do this mod. Seeing as how it is, or almost is free.

To do the best job, you can get metal templates online for about 10 bux or so. Just to make sure your mod is very accurate.

You can do it cheaper by printing off actual size templates for free.
I just don't trust the measurements to be accurate after going through someone's computer, the internet, my computer, and then my printer.
Dimensions could be skewed anywhere in that chain.
Then you are only dealing with paper, to make a mod that has to be very accurate, I want something more stable than paper.

    Dave

    Edit:
Here is a pic of the holes relocated.
