Here's a photo of an installed cushion cover. The insert is done in Ruffino grain vinyl, the side trim vinyl is Corinthian grain. The cover is installed on a 71 Comet seat frame that was sandblast and painted. New foam from a 72 Mustang was used. I will post a photo of the backrest and complete seat once the buttons are done. I will know on Tuesday the availablity and cost of other colors besides black.

    Jim,
As long as the cloth is available I can make them. I have the cushions finished and installed. They fit perfectly so I know the patterns I made are good to use. I sew all of the covers myself so even custom fabrics and colors can be done. I don't have rear seat patterns yet but I think I found a 71 with the correct pattern on the rear seat. I should have them this week.

Hi Fred. Don't know if you ever got a good picture of a 71 rear seat so here you go. This one is in my 71 Comet GT. If you don't find one closs enough to you for a pattern let me know and maybe I could ship mine up for a pattern. I live down in Jackson, NJ. My car had a set of new 70 Mach 1 covers on the front seat. They match up alright but would rather have a whole set of correct 71 GT seat covers for front and rear. - Matt[IMG]

Put me Down (seriously) for a set of 1972 Black front seats .
I`ve been dreading trying to get them done locally because I really wanted the buttons put on them and I wondered if these local shops would match the grain of the vinyl right.

My back seat is Perfect so I will leave it alone.

    Thanks for the compliments!
I heard back from one of my distributors today. Black Corinthian and Ruffino are no problem to get. Other colors are still made but because of a minimum order of 40 yds they don't stock them. They will never sell enough to justify the order. Both ginger and midnight blue Corinthian are stocked.
There are two other sources for the other colors, SMS Auto fabrics and original Auto Interiors.
SMS charges $49.00/yd for either the Corinthian or Ruffino grain vinyls, $65.00/yd for the 70 style vinyl insert and $95.00/yd for the small weave style. That would add app. $40.00 to the cost of a pair of front seat covers and also app. $40.00 additional to the rear covers in ginger. The medium blue would be more since I would have to get both the Ruffino and Corinthian from them adding app. $120.00 to the front set and app. $90.00 to the rear set. The midnight blue Corinthian does not match the medium blue Ruffino. The Corinthian grains are reproductions, the Ruffino, 70 vinyl and the weaves are originals.
The additional cost is strictly due to the cost of the vinyls. The labor is still the same.
I have not heard back from Original Auto interiors yet but from past experience they are usually a few dollars/yd less than SMS.

I heard from Original Auto Interiors today . As I thought their prices are lower than SMS.
To do a front set of covers in blue with Ruffino inserts would add $75.00 to the cost and an additional $50.00 for the rears. They did not have a price on the ginger yet. The small weave vinyls I had listed previously are for 1970. The 1971-2 black/charcoal weave is $125.00/yd!
So far these are the approximate prices I have come up with so far.

    1971-72 highback front seat covers

    Black w/Ruffino inserts Front $300.00, Rear $185.00

Black w/black charcoal inserts Front $450.00, Rear $345.00

Medium blue w/Ruffino inserts Front $375.00, Rear $235.00

    Ginger w/Ruffino inserts Front $340.00, Rear $225.00

The prices on the front covers are definite. The rear covers are an estimate until I can get a set of original covers to measure. This also does not include the vinyl button. I should know next week the exact cost of them.

Hey Fred, Can you find out if the 71/72 Grabber seat frames are the same as the 73/74 Grabber highback buckets. Also, no one mentioned doing the original 73/74 Grabber seat covers. It should be cheaper since its all vinyl with a pattern. BTW, what's is ruffino reffering to? which one of the ones in your list has the comfortweave insert? Thanks

I don't know if the frames are the same. The foam is definitely different. The covers would be about the same as the 71/72 black Corinthian/Ruffino covers. The labor is the same and the only difference is that they are all Corinthian grain vinyl which I can get from my normal suppliers. The ginger and black are the same price .They also have a blue that is a little darker, jade green and a few others.

I was planning on going with the Mustang covers, and using the Mustang foam aslong as the frames are the same they should fit fine hopefully.

I have finally got a price on making the reproduction seat buttons. They will be $25.00/pair heat sealed to the vinyl. These will be exactly as the originals. There is a 2 month production lead time so they won't be ready until May. I have also found less expensive sources for the Blue Ruffino vinyl.
