Hi, where are you getting the gas to pour into the carb? Are you using the gas from the fuel line,or from a gas can? If you are using gas from the fuel line then I would say the gas in your tank, fuel lines are OK. I would still run some gas cleaner . I would also get a new fuel filter. You could try this. Disconnect the your fuel line going to the in side of your fuel pump and plug the line. From the fuel pump connect a rubber hose and drop it into your gas can. Pour some gas in the carb and start the engine. If it stays running you got a good fuel pump and carb. With car running spray some carb cleaner to clean up your carb. The fuel pump may pump gas with line disconnect, but under any kind of load it can't hold line pressure. Make sure the gas can is safe place before you start.

How long is "a little bit"? Minutes? Seconds? Does the car start back up immediately? If not, what does it do when you try to start it?

If this car still has the old gas in it, the first thing I would do is drain the old gas out. You can get most of it out by loosening the fuel sending unit, just make sure you have bucket or something under it to catch the gas, and obviously don't have your face right up there in the way. If it dosen't have much old gas in it (less then 2 gallons), you may be able to get by with just adding about 3 gallons of fresh gas to try and dilute what ever is in there. Adding some fuel system dryer probably wouldn't hurt either. I would then get a clear plastic fuel filter and install it just before the carb. That will allow you to watch and see what the gas is doing when the car quits running (and see what the gas looks like).

Running old gas is hard on an engine, particularly the the valve guides, and can cause the valves to get stuck.

Thanks for the advice, it must have been bad gas or the carb because i replaced carb and gas and now it runs good. Is there a way to fix the idle because it idles real high when i start it. Now i have a transmission problem because the car only goes in reverse.
