I'm not all that familiar with carbs so i thought I'd throw this out there. The Mav has been acting weird lately. If i hit the brake hard and the car "noses down" it acts like it wants to die. Also, sometimes it's really hard to start. Here are the specs: Stock 72 302 Edelbrock 500 cfm 4 barrel carb New Fuel filter Any ideas? Thanks!!
Float setting too low/carb set too lean.Start with this.Others will chime in with more suggestions.Good luck.
PaulS, I don't know to whom your question is directed to, so I'll answer it. Superlead76 states that he has a Edelbrock 500 cfm 4 bbl. I have a 650 Holley. Ken
well on the edelbrock, if the spring was not put on the metering rod support then it would be nearly impossible to start without the choke so you can add that to the low float setting.
Thinking out loud here. In my opinion if there is enough fuel in the bowl to drive it, then there is enough fuel in the bowl to hit the brakes. Two questions, do you have power brakes? Also, does it ever run poorly under accelleration? Dan
I'm going to throw something out that I've seen happen a couple of times....Check your wiring. I've seen wires that looked good from the top have a worn place on the bottom side, unseen unless you turn the wire a bit. When a certain motion occured, the naked place on the wire would short out, causing the vehicle to try to die and cause hard starting. Then, once the engine shook enough cranking, it would unground, and work normally. Sounds odd, and hard to trace, but it can happen.....
