Can I use 65 Mustang Upper control arms on the Mav? If not is there any amount of modifying them that can easily be done to make them work? As always thanks.
There is a difference between the 66 & the 68 (same as Maverick) I can't find any good pic's to compare them, but they are listed differently in most catalogs.
This guy sells them for Mustangs and Mavericks. He will make sure you get the right one. Good prices, fast shipment. I am very happy. http://laurelmountainmustang.com/index-1024.htm
IIRC the earlier Mustang upper arms have a 4-bolt ball joint and the later Mustangs and Mavs use a 3-bolt ball joint.
Biggest difference is the upper arm bolt spacing. The bolts that mount to the shock tower are closer on 64 to 66 than later years. The arms can be made to work. If your going to try use the furthest rearward hole and drill a new front hole. This will set the arm further back and give you alot of extra camber (possibly too much).
Your right, I should read my own drivel before posting. I don't think there will be any outward movement of the arm. The 67 and later Mustang arms are about 1/16" shorter so that'll give a little less camber. I think the issue with using the 64/66 arms occurs because the arm is generally centered on the tower and putting the early Mustang arm in there using the rear most hole could set the arm too far back and the front pivot could possibly contact the front of the tower buldge? I believe the bolt spacing is 3 3/4" on the early arms and 4 1/4" on the later (I'll check that). That 1/2" from placing it the rear hole could put too much caster and make it difficult to even turn the car.
