Can anyone explain to me why you notch the fender and not the filler panel when you swap from big to small bumpers?? My 72's brackets are bent so bad I can't use them to mock up the front of my 77. Also, on the back, do you need the old inside braces or is it easier just to bend and weld up a new bracket?? If anyone has made their own, I'd sure like to see some pics of how you did it! I'm going junkyarding this week for brackets and hope to do the swap next week!! Thanks in advance!! Scott
If you notch the stone guard, the tips are less rigid and there is no way to brace them. Also you need to have a gap to prevent them from scratching the paint on the fender. By notching the fender, the stone guard bolts to the bottom of the fender so it remains structurally sound and there is no gap.
if your swappinp small bumpers onto your '77 i would just cut the stock '77 stone gaurd to fit. thats the easiest route and youd really have to have the eye to notice
I notched the metal stone guard around the fenders. Can't really tell unless you look real close. The metal stone guard stays rigid and fills the gaps nicely. Just take your time when notching and only take off as much as needed to mount it and clear the fenders. Ken
