i've been thinking about rebuilding it for a while now and the maverick just runs reeeeally rough every now and then if it dies it takes forever to fire back up. anybody think a rebuild would be a possible solution? i still got the original 6 cyl 250 all original and it sat for 6 or 7 years

Whether you should or not is up to you. I recently rebuilt the one on the Sprint. Pretty easy rebuild. (Except that darn float bowl gasket) If it sat for some time did you clean the tank out? Could be picking up junk from the tank. When I pulled the float bowl off the carb on the sprint it was full of junk! I can't see how it ran at all. I know once the re built carb was back on it sure ran ALOT better. Good Luck

probably needs a rebuild...if you can't do it you may be able to find someone to do it cheaply though a car club or maybe a mechanic who want a few extra bucks. They are pretty simple though..follow directions and remember how it came apart..and don't lose any parts! You could also get a rebuilt unit from an auto parts store or from a good runner at the wreakers...or, you could try something like seafoam in the fuel tank to see if that will clean it out.

take plenty of pics...if you do rebuild or not the tank and lines still need cleaning. i wouldn't fire it up after rebuild untill it is cleaned...:thumbs2:

Dude, I just rebuilt mine Saturday out in the driveway. I had the carb and a lil bucket of parts cleaner. Cleaned all that junk out. Blew it off with the air gun. Whalaa! Got it back on the car, with no leaks. Give it a try. And mine was a 2bbl Holley.

Check your fuel filter for debris. If you see stuff in there then the tank most likely needs a good scrubbing. Just my 2 cents.

You can get a new/refurbished carb for pretty cheap at the local parts houses. I bought one for the 250 for comet666 for around $45 last year.

A lot easier to swap it out, if you are worried about the rebuild process.

is it the..."stock carb."... or a rebuilt one that is on it now?

when/if you get a rebuilt take your carb with you (core) to make sure you get a direct swap. also see if there are any parts on the old carb. that need to be swapped out...:yup:
when i do this swap i pay the core, then go back and get my refund after the "new" carb." is on and working...:thumbs2:
i myself perfer to have my stock carb. rebuilt. this way you have the one that fits and has all the right parts.:yup: after 30+years chances are you have a rebuilt carb. now.
