head porting

    Can anyone tell me how much of the knot in the exhaust port can be taken off? I am porting a pair of early 302 heads and it looks like i can take it all off but am not sure.

    Take the whole thing off. Same for the valve guide that hangs down in the port--grind it flush with the roof of the port.

    Do not remove the valve guide. Use it to direct air to the port by shaping it whileleaving the entire length of it to support the valve. If you remove it the valve has too little support to prevent wear.
