Brakelight switch,, location is down where your brake pedal is, look around. Also could be that the sockets need a good cleaning.

i had a problem with my left rear but not the right, everything worked except the brakelight, i had it rigged since i first drove it home. i had to i didnt have a liscense so i jumped a wire between the right an left light. i just used the old trial and error method theres only 3 wires there. just the other day i went to do it right with crimps and all, after i had removed the old piece of speaker wire i checked the light and it worked, no repair, i had just ripped out my "fix" and it was still working just fine. i guess the moral of my story is that wires can be fickle, so.. when in doubt get out the old circut tester.

I just had the same problem....I did as Dan suggested. Replaced the switch.
Then it became intermittent and then I did as Dennis suggested. Cleaned the socket area to make sure it was grounding good. Problem solved.
