I am putting my rebuilt motor in on Saturday. I have a new HEI distributor. My chiltons book tells me the firing order within the motor. I know how to get TDC and do all that. But how do I know what wires go where on the new distributor as the pins on top of the distributor are not labeled. I really appreciate your help. The instructions dont help.

    Thanks

    What HEI do you have?
Mine has a + marking on the cap that I wired to the switched side of the solenoid. On the cap it is the terminal on the driverside, the terminal next to it(passenger side) is the tach lead.

Can you post a pic of your distributor?

Oh I see, well with mine I just bumped the engine to TDC on piston #1 and installed the dizzy so that the rotor was pointing to #1 and wired it up according to the firing order.

Honestly I have not touched it as far as settings yet. I dropped it in and it was damn near dead on for startup. I still have yet to do any adjustments, she fires within one revoloution everytime. I will update as soon as i actually get it on the road. I have been having problems with my C4 trans, and am still awaiting my first ping test.
