A drag only car would be alright under the " normal" conditions you state, But since some have a high output ignition and computerized controls, A alt. cutout is not a good idea for these cars. If my battery voltage falls under 12 volts (which doesn't take long without the alt. charging) the electronics go into a feed me first scenario. Which is not good. Ignition power gets weak and this can and will cause a cylinder misfire, This is a no-no on a Blower car with high cylinder pressure. This causes my wide band to think the engine is running rich ( unburnt fuel will show rich on a wideband or a narrow band for that matter). Which is not good when it tries to lean the mixture. So on cars like mine that has Multitudes of electronics this OLE SCHOOL trick will not work. I will agree the surpintine belt would be the best set up. But with Blowers and trying to keep the STOCK look this is not an option. The larger pulley wont work either on cars that demand a lot of power from the alt., Because all the pulleys Ive tried doesn't produce enough JUICE at low engine speeds. Although all the Ole School tricks that was mentioned will work on most Drag only or moderate powered street cars, If you have a lot of electronics these tricks may cause some problems.

Hey Blown 5.0, Are you running V-belts or a Serpentine belt? Just courious. I plan to run the stock twin V-belts.
The whole reason I asked the question was, I think on the Ford Muscle site, I saw an article about adding a large ampere alternator it helped a big block.
PA Performance wrote back and suggested a 3G 95 amp with a couple of different wireing harness.
My needs are more between idle and 5k rpm, not that my Mav see's 5k very often, hmmm, that might be my next goal!:drive: I am looking for a 3.8 and harness.

I am an OLD school kind of guy - that is why I own one 1972 Maverick, two 1973 Mavericks and one 66 Mustang. All run points ingnition, and have at most a radio or two in them. I am a lot older than any of my cars!

I run 1 V-belt due to the Blower pulley configurement, Like i said sometimes i have some belt slippage if i let the battery get low. Mine is the 100 amp Power master 1 wire setup, It works great. I did have some problems trying to run a 65 amp, so that is why the Power masters unit is used. At idle mine puts out about 13.7 volts, Anything above idle i have about 14.3. My electronics love it. P.S. My headlights are about twice as brite, Even with stock wiring.

    Blown 5.0,
Your rule book sounds interesting to read, where can I get a copy?
    Thanks,

Don't understand the question, Although most all my rules have came from personal experience, I never comment on anything i have had no experience with. I have been going the Maverick- Blower route since 1975, So most of my rules have came from the school of hard noxs. I hope no one has to go to this school, Because its no fun, Recess is short, Tuition is high. And the teacher is very picky. This is the reason i try to help when i can.

    Blown 5.0,
I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were racing in the "Stock Appearing" drag racing, I have read about, I just have never seen a rule book.
Your racing is learned the hard way. I now understand.(y)
    Thanks,
    Ken
