Ok So My Buddy Has A 78 Mustang 2. He Lost His Keys. Now The Door Keys Are No Big Deal We Can Get Those All Day. But How In The Hell Do I Get The Lock Cylinder Out Without The Key..? Does Anyone Know Or Does Anyone Know Of An Article . It Is The Same Old Style Square Ford Key As What S In My Maverick. So If Anyone Knows How To Get On Out Of A Maverick . Im Assuming Its The Same Steps For His V8 Pinto .... Lol
Take out one of the door locks and go have a key made for it. That key will work for the ignition too. I did this with a Mav I used to have. Works great, cheap, and you don't have to mangle up anything.
?? Well I Think The Door Keys Is Dif From The Ign Key. Om My Maverick My Door Key Is Round And The Offset Is Backwards. And I Know His Is The Same. I Can Get A Lock Cylinder With A Key For $9.99 At O-reily Auto Parts. But I Cant Get The Old One Out.
Well, it looks like your door locks have been switched out then. All Mavs from the factory used the same key for the door and ignition. The round key was for the trunk and glove box. I believe most, if not all, Fords of this vintage used one key for door/ignition and another for the trunk/glovebox. Ask your buddy if he remembers if they were the same key - they likely should be unless changed over the years.
Asked Ok I Asked And He Says They Are Different. You Knwo How The Key Has An Offset To It. Well It Is Backwards For The Door. I Wonder If The Steering Column Is The Same In My Mav As His Car. I Got An Extra On Of Those Laying Aorund
Remove the steering wheel and you will see when the key ignition goes into the column, look and you will see a little "button" that you can push to remove the keyed ignition push it and you will have to wiggle it a little but it will come out without damaging anything.
If worse comes to worse you can pull the lock cyl with a slide hammer.It aint pretty but if you get it right the first time it shouldnt do any damage to the column.Drill a hole in the cyl that a 5/16ths sheet metal screw will bite into really well.Attach said screw to slide hammer and give it a few good whacks.it will pop out in one piece(hopefully)
Ok So Chandler Your Saying Just Pull The Wheel And I Can Push This Button.. Even Without The Key? Is It A Big Button Or Will I Need Something Small To Push It With?
Its small,but I think the button only works if you have the key/ignition in the "ON" position.A small screw driver should do to push the button.Try and see what happens,it cant hurt at this point.
Eother way you can work on the inside of the column instead of banging up the outside. If the steering wheel is off push the button in and (if it has to be on) screw the dent puller into it. While pushing the pin or button have someone pull the slide on the puller, this way the whole doesn't get destroyed from just using the puller.
I had a locksmith come out and cut a brand new set for $80. It was for my escort. It used the same type of key.....door/ignition combo.
With a little time and some sheet steel you can make a couple of lock picks to turn the key lock to the ON position. I do it when the need arises.
