Hi all. I was just thinking this morning about something. Having been a scooter collector for many years, I would gape at any pile of junk in someone's yard, or in dumps; and barns. Can't count how many times I was gapeing and almost went on the shoulder. Now, I find myself, for the last few years, gapeing all over the place looking for Mavericks. Unfortunately, they junked so many years back, that there aren't that many around here anymore. I was lucky to spot my Sprint. It was in terrible shape when I found it though. $300.00 with just surface rust, but engine was a mess, and needed paint, grill, radiator, and one rim. Went through three rims for a Sprint before finding a straight one. Ahh, the joys of Maverick ownership. All have a nice weekend. Jack
I found a brown Mav beside a trailer and the guy said his son was"agonna fixer up one day". Another guy wanted $700(!) for his 1970 6 banger that needs a new gas tank and had hypo needles on the floorboard and the package shelf under the dash. I took a video of us trying to get it started. There is a guy nearby with several Mavs and Comets one of which is a 69.5 with the cool column and dash ignition. He won't part them out though. $200 per whole car. One was a Grabber! I try to see them anywhere I can and I always remember where they are.
There hasn't been a Maverick/Comet around here for 15 years or so, that I didn't know about or bought.
I went to a yard sale up in the mountains last weekend. Across the street from one, I saw a small bumper Maverick sitting behind some other cars. I plan on checking it out next time i'm back up there.
Hi all. Don, don't wait too long. Everytime I told myself I would go back later, it was gone. Good example of that is not too long ago, I saw a stock 47 Dodge pickup. I love those trucks. Still have the original flathead six too. Thought to myself "I will have to stop and ask him about it". Went by a week later--he had sold it cheap. Woe is me! All have a great day. Jack
There was a Mav 2-dr in my old neighborhood in Philly that was used as a daily driver. Saw it almost every day between 2000 and 2005.
Hi all. Yeah, Ray, that was and is the neat thing about them. You can almost fix anything on them along the roadside. (Not that Fords/Mercurys ever break down--gee, I must have been talking about a Nash, Kaiser, Studebaker, or sumpin else. Ha ha. Man, when I think back to the late eighties and how many Mavericks were sitting around, and I would think to myself "they wouldn't want to sell that". Then, see them being towed away. Sickening! Oh well, I did find my trashed Sprint, which is now like a new car. Got to be greatful for what we do have. Only problem I see here right now is that 'Mavaholic' told me he can't give me the other half of his parts for nothing. I would have to bring a check. Can you imagine that. Darn. I already had a list of what I was going to pick up free. I get no respect. Man, with what I saw him hauling home, I would need a very thick wallet or a very large bank account. Glad to see all of those Mavericks and parts were saved from the crushers. Jack
