Apply RTV to the bolts that protrude into the coolant jackets. Sticking a phillips screw driver into these holes will tell you which are blind & which go into the coolant jackets. Small block aluminum intake bolt torque is 20-25 ft/lbs. Start with the middle bolts and work outward, going from one side to the other. I do the whole sequence 3-4 times then go back an hour or more later and recheck all. It usually takes this till the gaskets fully compress.

I use ARP thread sealer on the bolts.

I have used Lock-tite "Gasket Maker" with complete satisfaction. I have even sealed a dirty bolt on a transmission - below the level of the fluid without draining it. Even through the dirt and oil Gasket Maker sealed the threads and bolt head. It completely stopped the leak.
