Like the title says, for those of you with just the Mav for a daily driver, ever wish you had a new car with a warranty?

I enjoy working on the old thing, but here lately it seems like Im at Napa more than I'm at home. By the time I fix one thing, three more need attention.

I guess I should be thankfull that parts are usually fairly cheap compared to a new car... :thumbs2:

well with the age of these cars you can expect to replace a few things, and sometimes quite of a bit of them. that's why i always have a 'newer' car for a daily driver. i drive a '95 Probe for fuel economy reasons, and my wife has a '00 Explorer XLT for the family...... so i just enjoy the mavericks as more of a hobby :)

    Nope,

It has been cheaper for me to buy the parts and fix my Maverick myself.

I wouldn't mind an old piece of junk to drive in the winter though...

In my almost 40 years of driving I've bought (just for me) 2 new vehicles. My Sprint and a 2003 F250. As much fun as old cars are, there's nothing like a new car with all the modern technology. Unless Ford brings back the Bronco, I dont foresee me buying another one.

I learned a long time ago, if you're gonna have a hot rod, have a backup way to go! Always need a parts chaser, even if it nothing but a rust bucket to fill in when the hot rod is down.

    Nope!

With the price of new cars and especially trucks today, I am very happy with my monthly vehicle payment of $0.00. In fact, all 11 of my vehicles are paid for and that lets me invest a little each month into my hobbies, mainly old cars.

I have been driving old cars long before they became popular. Back when others were driving a new late 70's or early 80's car, I was daily driving a 65 LeMans conv, 66 Corvette conv, 67 Fairlane GT conv, 69 Camaro RS conv, 71 Corvette conv, etc. and loving it. Even when I lived up north, I loved my convertibles.

Today, given the choice between the '69 Cougar conv and the '98 Eddie Bauer V8 Explorer, I pick the Cougar. I have over 30,000 miles on the conv this past 3 years and it keeps going and going!! I am driving it on a 200 mile one day trip next week and have no worries that I won't make it.

And, did I mention that I can work on the old cars myself, which is something most people can't say about new ones, warranty or not.

I have had 3 new cars, my Stallion, a 88 Stang GT and my 05 F-250. I still have all of them. I have driven old cars all my life. It takes work to keep an old car on the road. If I was driving to a job site, I would probably drive my 66 chevy pickup everyday, drove it for years and just love the old truck. But I live my life on the road in sales and drive a 98 Bonneville with 408K. Couple of weeks I will retire it with an 04 Bonneville that I bought totalled, sandwiched, hit in front and rear,. Cant afford a new car. Will end up with $7,000 in the 04 Bonneville done. Worked my butt off to get it ready, but these times with high gas prices are hitting me hard.

I hear ya on those hard hitting gas prices....I have a '99 Crown Vic, not exactly what I'd call a gas sipper, but it's paid for, and don't have the cash to replace it with a car that has a smaller appetite. But thankfully I have about a ten min drive to work, but unthankfully the wife has a 45 min drive to work so to keep miles off her car(which the manufacturer says premium fuel), we usually take mine when we go anywhere together.

I have had new cars. The warranty never seems to cover what needs to be done and I haven't had to pay out enough on my Maverick to make up for just one month's payment on a new car.
    No I don't wish I had a new car.

NOPE. never had a new car and never will. I rather pay cash and not have to worry about monthly payments. I always buy low mile cars that have been taken care of. Only bought 1 lemon 20 yrs ago, 76 cougar with a 400 mod motor. what a gas guzzler then and imagin now SHHHHH. TTFN RON(y)

for years and years I always drove whatever I could get for small amounts of $$$ and drove them until they died and would then buy another POS to drive daily. After early years of struggling as a young couple and driving what we could. Then once finances allow we always kept the wife in a new car, but I took whatever I could get cheap. A few years back I bought a new truck and love it to this day!!!!

As Dennis said, theres nothing like a new car with modern technology

With my busy schedule and poor mechanic skills, I need a reliable daily driver. Once things settle down, I would like to get a weekend cruiser that I could work and learn on.

All i can say is i would much rather work on anything pre 1985 ,at least theres room to work in thoughs vehicals . Now anything new is so tight for space ,your bashing your knuckles every time you turn a wrench ,and parts are so expensive and you need a cumputer to determine whats wrong . Id take a 50,s,60,s or 70,s anytime befor a 90 to 2008. Just my 2cents
