what all has to be done to get the efi to work in a mav. like all the sensers and the wireing harness. will i have to pull the dash out and put several grand into it or can it be as cheap as a carburated?
It can only be cheap if you arereal good at scrounging the parts and connecting them together. I would think that getting parts from a used car would make it possible to do for under $3000 (complete engine refresh included) You will need to duplicate the conditions of the part cars to make it work correctly. If it has an automatic transmission you either need to use that transmission or learn how to terminate the leads to the sensors. It all depends on how good you are at learning what you need to know.
i have a 92 5.0 computer controled in my 72 comet. I bought the motor trans wiring harness and computer for 450.00 it is a mass air motor also. All i needed to buy was 2 o2 sensors and a high pressure fuel pump.
ive been lookin at that site but i havent been able to find anything about installing the sensers on a classic. my cousin knows alot about cars and might be helpin but he said i would have to get the dash out and put gauges and stuff out of the doner car. im probably gonna get a mustang and put the whole motor in after a rebuild. but where do all the sensers go that normally wouldnt go on a 71 maverick.
i work at a junkyard. my motor came with everything i might need to inject it, i hate wires, if you need any sensor, plug, etc. let me know. but.... id say leave it simple. you dont need a computer to make a carb motor run hard. i wanted to run the efi setup its hella nice and it looks ill, but i hate wires.
what i want to know is if there is a place for every senser or is there some that i wont use. i need some thing that will tell me where each one goes. will it all be around the efi parts and the exaust and stuff like that or are there more?
JD71, The sensors are not on the dash. They go on the engine and if it is a late enough model in the transmission. The computer should mount somplace dry and cool - like under the dash but there is no need to modify the dash. No sensors go there.
so all the sensors go mostley on the motor and not on different places on the car. and i'll be able to use all sensors. how hard is it to fit everything in there? will i need the trans out of the donor car and will it fit? i'll probably go with a late model mustang is there any that may be easier or harder to work with
The hardest part is going to be closing the hood, I think. The links of those who have done it is a good place to start. There may even be something in the TECH ARTICLES section.
the plan is to get the whole motor and ecu and wires and maybe the trans too out of the donor car. if it wont fit under the hood is there any way to lower the motor if not it could be fixed with a hood scoop or new hood, right?
