I am building a 351w for my maverick and was thinking of a tri power setup, I always liked to be different...I know there is a manifold made for this setup, but any help would be appreciated....Jim:bananaman :bananaman
I've never seen one... ..I am not saying there has never been one made. The 351W is a bit of an oddball intake as it only worked on that engine. I know there were 3x2 setups for 260/289/302's as well as FE big blocks. Before all that they came on the old Y-blocks and some flatheads. Maybe someone makes/made one. But I have been around a lot of 'different' setups and I can't remember seeing a dual 4V setup for 351W and I think that would be more likely than 3x2. The 3x2 setup was popular on big block Fords in the early 60's, commonly found on Galaxies. They came with 390, 406, and 427 CID FE engines. In the mid sixties there were some race setups and over the counter performance setups for small blocks. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34202&item=2457524602 I have seen the above go for up to $1200 and this is 260/289/302. I know a guy who may be able to find you a setup if you are serious. I just don't know if they are made. Seth
If you want to really be different, how about a set of 48 IDA Webers? Blue Thunder makes an intake for the 351W for this setup. It is of course, a little pricey compared to the Tri-Power set up.
You can use port plates to get a tri power 302 intake to fit a 351. They were pretty common back in mid to late 70's (before the big Mustang boom). There were not a lot of performance intakes for 351W back then. I saw a set for sale last fall at the local drag strip swap meet. The bad part of port plates is that you have to double gasket them (between the intake and plate and between the plate and the head). This gives you twice the oportunity of a vacuum leak or oil leak. Of course you could just have a welding shop weld them to the 302 intake and have a machine shop mill them flat. You could even get the machine shop to make the plates too if you can mock up some plates out of scrap plywood. They are just aluminum about 1/2 inch thick. Cleaver
Hey GS... ...I know these are Webers. Is this a small block (289/302)? The valve covers make it look different. Weren't there some Gurney engines that had low profile valve covers similar to these? Seth
This pick sucks. I use Microsoft Picture It 7.0 to change the size of pics and it really sucks. Anybody got any better ideas. I lose all the resolution when I reduce them. Seth
Yep...Irfan View. It is a great little program and easy to use. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4624 Try it out....
tri power thanks for all the imput yall, I think it would be a cool deal If I can get it right...I'm gonna try...Jim:bananaman
Seth-The pic is too small to make out what motor is underneath those Webers. There was specific Gurney/Weslake 302 that had low profile valve covers & aluminum heads with a Weber intake. These Gurney 302 motors could not interchange intakes with conventional 289/302s. Same with headers. They were unique all onto their own. This engine was extensively tested for the Trans Am series in 1969 & developed more hp than the Boss 302 Cleveland head 302 engine. Ford opted for their own heads & shelved the Gurney Weslake motor. The only reason was because Ford wanted their own design, not an outsiders. This engine went onto win the Indianapolis 500. You could pick these unique motors up for around 10K a few years ago. Today, they are bringing 20K and up.
GS.. ..When I blow it up in my photo program, it does say....Eagle on the valve cover. This is a motor in a Maverick in Brazil. If you want a large pic of it, give me your e-mail address and I'll send it over. Seems like it would be a rare piece. seth@realtor.com Seth
315 to 302 adaptor plates Hello Jim I am in the same situation for my 1931 Ford with a 351W I found there is a place WWW.Pricemotorsport.com that makes all kinds of adaptor plates for Fords and there is a set for a 351W block 315W heads to a 302 maniflod for about $300. Hope the info helps.Later Jim
Edelbrock makes a dual carb intake for the 351w. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/manifolds/ford/multiple_carbs-289.shtml part number 7585 towards the bottom of the page. Edelbrock has been releasing alot of dual and tri intakes lately and i wouldnt be suprised if they do a tri power for the 351w in the near future. you might want to contact them, if they hear of enough intrest they might do it.
