I WAS running Champions on my 68 cougar but after the second day it developed an intermittant miss. Never on the same cylinder or at the same rpm. etc... I put new wires, cap, rotor and no difference. Finally swapped in Autolite 45's and the miss dissappeared..? This is the third car and last time I'll run Champions.
I am really surprised to hear so many "horror stories" about one of the most recognized spark plug brands... Kinda like FRAM, poor product but GREAT name recognition?
I'm with the group on this one. I've used both Champions and Autolites and the Autolites always outperformed the Champions in all respects. There may have been a time when the Champions were all that was available, but the offerings from Autolite and NGK are both better in my opinion. And I'm with CaptainComet...extra threads exposed can lead to preignition (spark knock or detination).
Champian focuses on their racing and specialty plugs. They don't need to sell on the OEM market to make their money or to get recognition.
I guess you think we're all a bunch a dumb hicks down here ? Or you mad cause all that fuel we send up there to you is over priced ? For all you Rhode Islanders, Hecho en Mexico means "Made in Mexico". "Fabrique aux E.U." means Fabricated in the European Union.
Only Champions worth a darn are the original "X" Plugs that are in my 23 Model T. Then new ones and the autolite/motorcraft replacements are crap. Not much of a comparison though since it only makes about 22hp... - Matt
I was pretty sure that it meant Made in the USA the first time around, but after this quote, I did a search to be sure. It is French for "Made in the USA". Their "E.U." is very similar to the Spanish "Estados Unidos" (United States). Hope I spelled that right ... long time since high school Spanish class. How'd a thread on spark plugs end up evolving into a language lesson, anyway?
Frams are just cheaply assembled, have less filtering surface area than many, and the blow-by valve fails more easily than most. There was a great article on here several years ago where some guy was cutting filters open and measuring the surface area of the filter, and testing the valves, etc. and Frams were closer to the bottom of the list in performance. But Wal-Mart sells them, so they are probably one of the most purchased filters. I have used motorcraft on ALL my cars since seeing that article.
european union my @$$!! hah...full blooded frenchman here...it's etats unis....united states....and for the record , I have no problem with rebs, kinda like em
