In my 250 engine, I've notice that once the engine has warmed up and after I drive it a while, once I come to a stop it the pressure will drop to 20 psi, and then slowly climb back up to 40psi, But while driving it stays at 40 psi. whats could be going on?

i think the psi is supposed to drop when you stop since the pump isnt turning as fast at a low RPM. 40 does seem a little on the low end i think, i could be wrong but i think 50-60 is normal

40 is not on the low end. Rule of thumb is 10#/1000 RPM.

20 Psi at idle hot for an old 200? 250?? is pretty good actually. How many miles are on it??
Technically you only need 8 PSI at idle.Like scotty said 10 psi for every 1000 rpm.
    Beam me up!!!

My 302 (hot) runs about 15 to 20 at idle and 70 at highway speeds. This is normal pressures.

You could have a defective oil pressure gauge.

Well the motor has 54,000 original miles on the clock.
