The edelbrock was running too lean at first so I went two stages rich on the "cruise" and "power" mode with a rod change but left the secondaries alone. Now the plugs read good but if I floor it from red light to red light it stinks of unburned fuel. Do you think I should lean out the power mode? or the secondary jets? I just bought the calibration kit and can't wait for it to get here. One other question, could I have a distributor problem? It's a duraspark, reconditioned from autozone. I think I need something better.
Little heads up for you........never mail a carb. It won't get to where you want it. Had two carbs mailed, both dissappeared. I think it's because they don't get past the sniffer the post office uses.
I tried to check some heads at the airport and because they were on a car at one time they said no. That was soon after 911. Anyway, I'm not sure what I'll do with the Holley.
OK, I'll get it shipped here. It shouldn't cost much and I have a contact or two that can help. I just don't want to see a good carb go to a scrap yard or waste facility.
Update I bought a calibration kit and have now tried several tunes. It had a small stumble when it warmed up and the plugs looked lean... So I tried 2 stages rich. That gave it a slow launch and smelled of gas. I tried one stage lean and took some timing out of it... good results. Went two stages lean like my altitude suggests it should be and changed the secondaries to match... Great results. I keep checking the plugs and haven't heard any pinging. My situation with flat spots has always been a rich condition. I'll work on the timing and check my MPG next. It had been getting around 17 with gears and tire size figured in.
