Riporter; Seems like east coast boys think alike :bananaman
70 Maverick; I wish mine looked like yours when I started. It looks real solid. Create your own car. Its yours so express what you like best (original , period peice, retro, etc.). You will be the one driving and enjoying it.

Not a bad start at all 70maverick. In fact it looks just like mine did when I got it. I haven't had much time with the car, but so far I've installed a grabber hood, spoiler, sport mirrors, bucket seats, and wheelwell chrome. I have a bunch more parts ready to go on once I graduate college and finally have a little more time.

Thanks guys. :) I believe that I do actually have a pair of sport mirrors that have been waiting to go on for most of the 13 years that I've had her. :D Looks like I might be back to hitting the junk yards when this project gets underway. :D

    69Maverick, nice looking car! :)[IMG]

Hmm... I think I'll start with a engine swap. From the bit of browsing that I've done here, it seems that the 351W swap isn't worth the hassle unless I'm looking to draw insane HP, is this correct? What about a 351C? What are the differences between the two?

I'm assuming also that a 302 is a simpler swap, but is it difficult to do a I6 to V8 switch? I've always done the work needed on the Maverick myself (although it hasn't needed anything major), but I've never done an engine swap.

It's a tough call, it depends on how much work you're willing to do and how much money you're willing to spend. If you really plan to take this project far and honing your skills along the way, you could do the mustang II front end swap, which would eliminate the shock towers all together. After the shock towers are gone, the possibilities are endless of what you can fit in that engine bay :). But yeah, a 351W dropped into a maverick with unmodified shock towers ranges anywhere from difficult to impossible depending on who you talk to.

Of course, you could easily make a 302 with more power than a 351. It might even be cheaper to make comparable power because more parts are readily available for 302's as they are very common. And with all that being said, all the power in the world won't help you if you can't put it to the ground. I still want to learn more about this as I would like to put 400 hp to the ground without having to tub my car and get rid of my back seat :), not quite sure if that's possible though.

What you should do is sit down and write your goals for the car, it's purpose. Is it going to be a street/strip car, is it going to be a daily driver, a show car, etc. Once you get that far, you narrow it down a little further with how much hp you want the car to make, how fast you want it to be, how you want it to handle, how much money you can spend on it, etc. Sorry for such a long post, but there's my advice for ya.

70maverick If I was to do it over I would just go with a 351w The 351c is not worth it. The W.is the way to go. It won't cost one cent more to do a 351w than a 302 will. Just cut the towers back and go for it!!

    P.S. Thanks for the aTABOY!!!
