Hello Guys and Gals,so i was talking with my girlfriend Bev about getting my car trailered back from Seattle Washington to Abbotsford B.C . I know have two options ,1st one is my close friend Dean take a day off work ,this Monday he said he would go down with my trailer because i have a 10,000 pound winch and he can pull the car on it(the car is not running). Dean is a car lover and my father restored a show car for him 15 years ago (came second in the lagest car show in B.C), Dean said he will take care of his fuel costs and believes the trip will be 8 to 10 hours to go there and come back after dealing with the boarder ,he wants 500.00 for taking the day off work and for his time and fuel . Now the other fellow is a friend of a friend who i do not know ,he will take his or my trailer and do the job for 300.00 because he is not working right now, he will go down friday . Bev says pay Dean the extra 200.00 and im thinking 200.00 extra racing fuel . what would you all do ,am i just being cheap here to save 200.00 bucks .
I would go with your friend Dean because the guy you don't know may beat the car up loading it on a the trailer, and you could trust your friend Dean a lot more. Jake
I agree, and if the car does get screwed up, your friend would more likely feel obliged to make it right. (And the unemployed guy probably couldn't if he wanted to...)
Pay the extra 200 bucks, trust is a factor here. With a car of that caliber, I wouldn't trust just anybody. Just my opinion.
Jimmy; go with what and who you know. Two hundred bucks is small change compared to a damaged car (especially one that nice), or at worse someone who takes off with the car.
I would choose the friend. The unemployed guy is a gamble; do you want to roll the dice and use your car as a marker? $200 may buy some racing fuel, but how far will it go towards parts and repairs if the guy is not experienced or reliable?
232 mi round trip. Gas is 4.00-5.00 per gallon depending on either Unleaded or Diesel. @$4.00 per gallon in a truck that will probably get 12mpg =approx $78.00 @$5.00 per gallon in a truck that will probably get 18-20 mpg=approx$65.00 So lets just say $100.00 in fuel costs. $400.00 remains. Lets approximate that the trust worthy friend makes $25.00 per hour, it will take 4hrs 40mins in driving time alone, this does not include loading or unloading the car from the trailer. @ 25.00 per hour and giving six hours to complete the run, he be missing out on $150.00 for work wages, add in wear and tear on his vehicle and you could easily tack on another $50.00 so now were at $200.00 for expenses. Still $200.00 remaining, I guess this is where you'd have to figure out if it's worth paying your friend $200.00 for his troubles and knowing that if something were to happen, he'd take care of it. Technically the friend is cheaper by $100.00 since the other money goes towards fuel and paying him for a day off, so realistically he's making $200.00 after all is said and done. Even after all this, I vote go with the friend.
So guys and gals, Bev needs a pat on the back ,you know, Bev you were right , so lets give her a few ,thanks folks. Jimmy
I still think you ought to let me go get it and bring it to my house until you can get here and get it. I guarantee it'll be in A1 shape and I'll save all the time slips for you. On second thought trust your friend.
Heck I am closer than Don and I know exactly were the car is, I would even make it run again. I would bring it to you the next time I was in Canada. I feel the pain for you Jimmy, its like winning the lottery and cant collect it. Bev IS right, money is not the factor here at all, trust is. Just my worth.
Picking my car up Well folks my friend Dean is going down this comming Monday to pick up my 71 grabber,im excited and i cant wait to get her home. This has been a long wait. Dean will pick up my car trailer on Sunday and leave his place at 6 am on Monday,he should have the car loaded by 9 am and be through customs and back in Canada by 2 or 3 pm .
