So i ended up not going to the restomods show in reno because it was pouring rain on saturday. instead my throttle cable (which the end had recently broken off) became the mission for the day. they dont have an aftermarket direct replacement at auto krappers for a 71, so i had to go with the Lokar aftermarket. the end that you cut and shape and refit was no problem, but the first time i step on the pedal the end that is from their factory breaks off. i went ahead and grabbed a solderless ring terminal connector and crimped it on the end of the stock cable. it is working currently, but has anyone had luck with the lokar kits or a different brand?
I have the Lokar one, seems ok so far. Maybe you should call them or send them an email and see what they say??
After having my original cable end snap and then having a very hard time finding a good original, I swore that I would convert it to a 73-on cable and pedal if it ever gave me trouble again.
LOL so my mickey job failed this morning, fortunately i can put those wire ends on all day. so what is the difference on the pedal end for a 73 on?
i have 2 lokars and no problem. I had a problem with my shifter and they sent parts out ,free. just let them know.
cable The cable on my 73 frayed up (on the exit at the fire wall) on me and locked in full throttle on me when passing on the freeway had to kill the car get out and force it loose i was a bout 15 miles from home pushed the throttle in about quarter of the way and putted down the freeway till i came to a auto parts store and bought one it was made by spectre was even steel braided works good
The way it attaches to the pedal is much better. I think it is a clevis pin through the pedal end... it has been a long enough time that I have forgotten specifics. Someone else might be able to chime in here ... The early cable ends remind me of lead sinkers that you use for fishing. Ford only used them for a couple of years and realized they weren't one of their "better ideas".
Shameless plug I listed a very nice used one on ebay a few days ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MESE:IT&viewitem=&item=190225256515&rd=1 It is for a V8. The 1973 and newer? has a plastic insert that goes into the gas pedal. It shows pretty well in my picture.
LOL ^ picx would be great if anyone could post some. i will probably call lokar this weekend but im not currently feeling too good about putting that back in if it fails faster than the stock 30+ year old one... krelboyne beat me to it.... looks too different to mod. BTW that looks like the one my wifes 89 bronco had which also broke. maybe i just got too big of feet
RESURRECTED!!! so i ended up buying the cheapy one from Kragen and putting that in. it lasted all of about 15 minutes. so then i took the good parts of both and merged them into one. Unfortunately the parts left were with remainders. this ended up in my throttle cable being a little short and raising the pedal to an annoying level. also the cable is held to the carb rod with a Hex bolt. this works ok but can slip. I have attempted some different techniques to try and get it to hold better but over all is annoying when im coming home from a late night class and it breaks. especially since there arent any street lights on the highways near me I think i just about have the system worked out so i plan to buy another cable this weekend to adjust the pedal level and hopefully keep it driveable. over all i like the solid linkage in my truck or the stock cable far better.
