ive got a 86 302 and i was wondering how i can figure out what it came out of its got a roller cam the oil pan has two humps and if it uses a reverse rotation pump can i still use my timing cover off of a 79 block and just get a reverse pump.....??????
It came from a car application if it's got a dual sump oilpan. You can use either waterpump or timing cover, but these two have to match. Some of the early 80's reverse pumps fit the std rotation cover, but the late 80's reverse pumps fit only the reverse covers. Any timing cover will fit any block. The advantage of the later 80's timing covers is they use locating dowels to fit the timing cover. There are both std and reverse covers with this feature. The Crown Vic/Marquis/Town Car 5.0's used a std rotation cover and pump.
