good night at the track. the car had a 1.70 60 foot and pulled the front tires a foot in the air on a 13.00 run. when we got back to the trailor we checked the timing, and it was at 12 degrees (my bad) so we set it to 40 and i headed back to the lanes. the second and last run of the night (the place was packed) the car was running much better. it pulled the front tires about 6 inches this time but i was not paying attention when i staged and almost missed the light so i let it go at about 5500-6000 instead of 8500. this pass the car ran a 12.54. i'm kind of confused about this because it sould be running low 11's high 10's. the car takes forever! to get through third gear. i shift into fourth about 1100 feet. the car has 463 gears, 487 horsepower, i shift at 7500 and it hooks up great....... i think that the proform 650 isnt enough gas for the 302 and the holley blue may need another spring that will pump harder. that's about all i can think of to get the car to throttle quicker in high gear. the only other option i think i can do is put a 9" in with some 553 gears. i really dont want to do that though. i'll check the plugs tomorrow morning to see if it's running lean. i'm crossing my fingers that the fuel is the problem. i'm going to go on wednesday and try it again with a 750 dominator. what do y'all think?
Did you by chance just put the proform main body on it? Congrats on the suspension btw.Sounds like it works good.
What rpm are you leaving the line at? Also I'm a little confused on what you are doing with the timing. Is the distributor locked out? Even at that 40 seems a bit much. Pulling the wheels the way you are, I would expect a much better 60 foot. It certainly sounds like the suspension is working. If it were me, I'd start by getting some more runs under my belt before changing the carb. Play with the timing, work on the launch and your consistancy. Watch the fuel mixture and optimize what you have. Then make changes one by one. You're on the correct path, just take it slow and methodical and you will be good to go! Good luck and keep us updated!
I hope you prove me wrong but I don't think you're going to get a 302 in the 10's that is in a car that weighs 3000 pounds. Also as I said before the headers are going to hold you back. I run a Holley 750HP on my 306.
i leave the line on the limiter at 8000. i agree i need a few more runs to really see what the car will run consistently and then i will be able to see what it needs.i just really hope that the car doesnt need more gearing and that it can get low 11's on what i'm working with. maybe use a carb change or just jets and a power valve.
I think everyone is interested in what engine setup you are using...heads, carb, block, compression, cam, etc. Those numbers sound GREAT for a 302, and many of us are jealous, and wondering what we can do to get close to your numbers.
Oh, nevermind, I found this upon searching... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=45051 I don't suppose you could take a recorder out there and let me hear what 8k on a 302 sounds like...:Handshake I have only been to 6500, and the "pucker effect" was too great for me to go any higher.
I left the line about 2000 and went through the traps at 7200 and ran 11.81 at Bakersfield with my 308. I also took 4 degrees timing out of it and added 40 pounds of weight trying to slow it to 11.90. Finally added 100 pounds.
How do you like that Parker Funnel web? I ordered one Friday to try out but will be delayed since I blew the rear out and I launched at 4k, 8k must be a fun ride.
There are some that heard Doc Hudson's maverick at the MCCI Round-up in Owensboro........freakish' and I believe he was around 9 grand. There videos of it somewhere around here.
it's great. the flow is very impressive. i really think it's the best manifold you can buy for a 302. especially when you grind it to fit the intake runners.
