Well after not having anything fun to drive for a while, I decided it was time to put my '72 Maverick back on the road. Heres a few pics of whats going on. The car in DD status about 5 years ago. On the rack, waiting for the transplant Right before I tore it apart I took a quick little video. [ame]http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a36/Outlawz4X4/?action=view¤t=MVI_0890.flv[/ame] The stock offending oil-burning small block removed. Why it burnt so much oil. Rebuilt short block ready for some goodies. Mostly assembled longblock waiting on pushrods and few other small things. I actually started working on about 4 months ago, but haven't been able to do much because I broke my ankle a month and a half ago. I'll probably be getting back on it next week. I painted the engine bay and dropped the motor in already. I still have to install the tranny, rad, motor acessories and the shifter.
Looks great! What for heads you running? Yes an good luck with ankle! Very important to treat it exactly as Dr says or you will pay for it later!!! Good Luck!
I love picts like this, wish I could view the video , best of luck with the ankle. wish i knew how to take and post picts , I have done it before but have forgotten. I have all the efi stuff off my motor, plus all the fan, aircopressor, p steering, alt etc, I haven't pulle dthe intake off yet as there are leaves sticks, and yes acorn shells, sitting on top of the motor, I have to get a shop vac and get all that crap out of there so nothing gets down in there
The heads TFS twisted wedge, and yeah, I'm taking it easy on the ankle. Dont want a reoccuring injury.
A little update, I'm back on it now. Almost finished with it. Broke the cam in the other night. Have a few loose ends I have to tie up before I can drive it, like exhaust, and hooking up an electric fuel pump. Cheap ass Summit headers needed a few swift hits with a hammer to fit correctly Can wait till it's back on the road Short vid: [ame]http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a36/Outlawz4X4/?action=view¤t=MVI_1081.flv[/ame] Here's the specs on everything: 93 5.0 roller block balanced rotating assembly ARP rod bolts Cloyes double roller timing set TFS Twisted Wedge aluminum heads w/screw in studs and guideplates Ford Motorsport 1.6 roller rockers chromoly pushrods Comp Cams XE262 grind 351W cam Speed-Pro hypereutectic teflon coated pistons Edelbrock Performer RPM intake w/600 CFM carb I had the trans rebuilt (C4) with a shift kit and it has some where between a 2200-2400 RPM stall. The compression ratio is about a point lower than I would like (around 8.8-8.9:1) because the short block was built for a milder application with different heads. I still think it'll run pretty damn strong though.
Looks good ... I like the air cleaner and valve cover combo ... very clean. Going by your specs, it ought to be plenty healthy. With that cam and compression, the motor will probably be fine running on mid-grade. I was getting away with running regular in mine on the highway, and mid-grade for around town and bracket racing.
