I have questions about what some of the stuff on this engine are. Below is a list of what I think the numbered items are. Please let me know what they really are if you know. (This is a 200CID engine) 1.) Some kind of solenoid or something, it has wires on it, but they are cut. It is attached to the back of the carb. 2.) ? 3.) ? 4.) ? 5.) PCV Valve? Where is the hose suppossed to go to? 6.) Exhaust gasses come out of here, not sure what it's suppossed to go to. The car is running right now, but I think it would run much better if I could fix these problems.
1. -Most likely a fast-idle solenoid. When voltage is applied, it moves the throttle open slight amount to speed up the idle during warm-up. 2.-Looks like a timed-port vacuum connection for vacuum advance on the distributor. Check to see if there is a vacuum hose connected to the vacuum advance canister on your distributor. 3.- Looks like a full manifold vacuum port. This should be plugged when not being used. Your engine may have a severe vacuum leak right now. 4.- Not sure but may be part of some sort of emissions control (EGR valve?). Someone else here may know for sure. 5. It's just a crank-case breather cap & fitting, not a PCV valve. A hose runs from it to a fitting on the original air cleaner--which is obviously not being used anymore. The PCV valve is at the other end of the valve cover attatched to that hose going to the base of the carb. This is mainly for emissions control and can be left as-is without harming anything (although it doesn't look pretty). 6.- Attaches to the air pump (emissions control). That is where the air is injected into the exhaust.
i have an old jeep with a carb like that and i think it is a fuel retern i've never seen a fuel return on a carb before but on my jeep it has a hose going to the tank
Hold your finger over it with the engine running and see if it sucks air...If it does, PLUG IT until you figure out what it originally connected to...
lol, I can't believe none of you can figure this out. Doesn't anybody have a '76 with a 200CID? That's what mine is, if you have one, just take a look for me and see where the hose on it is running. Oh, and any more info on the other items would be appreciated please.
One more thing. About item #6, exactly what is it again? Because I'd like to plug it up. I noticed that when I'm driving my car I get a lot of exhaust smell into the cabin, I think it could be because of this metal line that's venting into the engine bay.
my jeep has a ford 200 I6 and the line runs back to the tank well it did but now that i've looked at it there is a bolt pluging the hose it could just be a mess up but then again the jeep aint got the original tank either ounce the hose reaches the frame there is a bolt plugging it but from the plug back there is a steel line that goes to were the sending unit on the original tank would be
