Finally got my wife a card for her camera to make some pics!! I posted about this problem a few days ago with my spacing being too wide between the quarter and the bumper. Here's whats going on: 77 Mav, 72 brackets and small bumper(not sure of the year) for mockup. I'm holding up the bumper(with brackets on) as high as it will go and aligned with my extensions on each end. The way I see it, I've got 3 options : Get another bumper to try, make or cut down the brackets for a better fit or ????(I'm open to suggestions here) !!! Anybody had any luck with fiberglass bumpers?? Getting another bumper will be a problem since all the local junkyards have crushed their Mavs in the last 2 years. Thanks for any help in advance!!

Here is a pic of a 71 bracket and 73 bracket. Which one do you have?

If the center of the bumper is out the same distance as the ends, I'd guess you have 73 brackets. I converted my 77 and had no issues.

You are missing your lower quarter extensions. I have some if you need them. Email me directly (see below) if I can help.

I got a 74 with 73 bumpers and they stick out the same way. I have a filler piece that fills that gap I think is 73 only like the bumpers. I changed the front to the small bumper but I might keep the rear bumper if the small brackets will fit.

My brackets look like the 1st one in rthomas pic. Craig, I thought only the 73s used a special lower extension??? I really thought this bumper would fit closer than it does. Mavaholic- does your bumper sit flush looking down the body line?? In pic 3 you can see how mine sits out from the body - both sides look like this. Maybe this bumper is off something else?? I got it in a trade a few years back. Thanks for the help everyone!!

    Nevermind.
It appears from your pic that you have the lower extensions.

Could your bumper be bowed out at the ends?
I suppose this would have the bumper unevenly close in the center though...

Unless the bumper is tweaked visibly, there should be nothing else to hold it out. The small bumpers were all the same 69-73. Just the mounts and extensions were different for 73.

Thats the same distance my bumpers are from the body. If you hit something with your car you want the bumpers to touch first. The bumper fillers (which are not in your pictures) will close that gap between the bumper and the body.

I thought the same thing until I looked at the 4th pic.
    They are there.

    Edit:
The more I look at that, the more I believe they have to be 73 bumper mounts. That is all it could be, and that looks exactly like they would be.
If it walks like a duck...

I only see lower quarter extensions in the last two pictures. I think the bumper would look correct in the first two pictures if you had the extensions on there.

With the bumper laying on the ground in the 4th picture.....it looks like you have the 1970-1972 bumper mounts.

Here is the gap between the quarter panel and bumper on a 70. Looks to be about 1" if that much. The lower quarter doesn't take up that much room.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!!! I finally cleared out some space on my 72 parts car and the bumper spacing is as bad as on my 77. Whats the best way to check the bumper for bowing and how the heck do I straighten it?? I believe I'll just move on and start hunting for another bumper or order a fiberglass one if its going to be too hard to straighten. Anyone know about the fit of a fiberglass one??
