Find a later Duraspark dizzy and box (@$60 new for both at Pep-Blows) out of an 80's Farimount/Granada with a 200. Pretty much a bolt in with a little wiring involved. Made a world of difference in my old 65 Falcon.

    I'd go with Pertronix.

i use the ds with a blaster coil. i have used the ds as high as 8k rpm. the dist is dead on, its the coil that makes the spark.

What did you do with the distributor and stuff from the motor you took out of the 76?

When I ran my last 4.2L jeep I got the cap, rotor, and adapter for an 89 300 straight 6 and used them on a duraspark II base distributor then I went to the junkyard and got a TFI wiring harness and got an MSD replacement coil for $55.00

Ok guys you can start picking on me now for the TFI setup but it is a cheap upgrade over the stock canister coils:idea:
Yes it worked really well even though people say the TFI setup is prone to failure...It is pretty much the same as the HEI coils...ran it for three years without a burp...twice in Moab

stupid me. i sold that motor for $100 on craigs list

and ironically, the old hot rodder that came to get it said he was going to convert it to points anyway even though it still had the DS dizzy in it...

never thought i'd be mesing with a straight six maverick again anytime soon...

my 76 still has the DS box in it but im using it to run the 302's DS dizzy

The best, cheapest, most reliable ignition I've ran on my car is a GM HEI ignition module (for a '78 Camaro with a 350), TFI coil (for an '89 F350 with a 460), and the stock Duraspark II distributor. You have to mount the HEI module on a heat sink. Very simple setup, and it works well.

The TFI coil for the 460's is exactly the same as the 300 the reason I say look for the 300 is it has a bracket designed to bolt on a straight six motor. It might be different for the 200 but it even bolted up to that old AMC motor without a problem

here is a quick rundown of what you do......with pictures:thumbs2:

also the TFI coil and the cap and rotors were available for v8 fords too the cap is a big upgrade over the stock one, thats why MSD uses the big ones whenever possible. FYI if you look at old amc vehicles they all have duraspark modules in them don't even be tempted to use them. AMC used duraspark I modules and the Duraspark II modules the fords ran is a much better system

If you wan to go exotic, you can go with the DUI from Classic Inlines. It is a 1 wire hookup and the coil is self contained inside the cap.

I think he was going for something economical and not $360 bucks(for the low grade model that is)

    http://classicinlines.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DUI%2D200%2DCIK

The DUI was originally made by Jacobs electronics who became a division of Mr Gasket co. Allot of people question their other products reliability (Mallory, Accell) so that might take something into account but it is interesting they no longer use that technology, but they still use the unilite style and they use the duraspark II style accell distributors.
