One of the best rides of my life was that first ride with 3.80 gears (up from 2.79). It was like "a whole 'nuther car"!!!

Would those gears work with a 250 6cyl? what AOD tranny is being used?

Those gears would pep up a 6 cylinder pretty good, just as they do a 302.

No matter what you put them behind, it would feel like almost a 20% increase in power, but you lose that in gas mileage and top speed, and you need to live with the 20% increase in RPMs while cruising.

I've just acquired an AOD and an Explorer rear with limited slip and 3.73 gears to go behind my '77 Maverick. It has a 250 with cam, headers, and soon to have a modified head and Holley/Weber 2-bbl carb. The final drive ratio, in overdrive, will be 2.50. I'm looking forward to a six-banger that will run a 15 second qtr. mile and get over 25 mpg on the highway.

15.99 is till in the 15's. :D My 250 should be putting out a little more HP than a stock 302 2-bbl and a whole lot more torque (cam design).
