took off work today so i could install new gears that i bought from lance....... went from 2.79 with aod trans to 3.4 with posi ( i think i like it, my wife seemed to like it to). guess ill do someting to the motor next, dont no what but something...
8 inch and with a 26 inch tall tire or lower they are great. Glad another mavericker gets to enjoy them.....
One of the best rides of my life was that first ride with 3.80 gears (up from 2.79). It was like "a whole 'nuther car"!!!
ya what sir mavowar said 8 inch but tires are 27 tall. the take off wasnt extreme from a dead stop but rolling about 30 then stomp it and it will pin your head pretty good. as a matter afact pind wife head today too. she seemed to like it.............
No matter what you put them behind, it would feel like almost a 20% increase in power, but you lose that in gas mileage and top speed, and you need to live with the 20% increase in RPMs while cruising.
I've just acquired an AOD and an Explorer rear with limited slip and 3.73 gears to go behind my '77 Maverick. It has a 250 with cam, headers, and soon to have a modified head and Holley/Weber 2-bbl carb. The final drive ratio, in overdrive, will be 2.50. I'm looking forward to a six-banger that will run a 15 second qtr. mile and get over 25 mpg on the highway.
15.99 is till in the 15's. My 250 should be putting out a little more HP than a stock 302 2-bbl and a whole lot more torque (cam design).
