I'm going to be taking off EVERYTHING on the front end after work today. Was just curious if there are any tricks/tips to make everything go well.

if you have a digital camera, you might want to take a pic of each piece before it comes off. This way when it's time to go back on all you have to do is look and see which way it goes. Good luck.:)

    Is the spring compressor necessary?

Yes....better safe than sorry. They can be rented at any auto parts store. Internal type needed. If you don't have a shop manual, take good photos as noted above. Go slow, do one side at a time. Make sure car is secure on the jack stands. Pre soak all nuts and bolts with penetrating oil for a few hours before you start, it helps. Be very careful diconnecting pitman arm from draglink. A manual is worth its weight...buy a good one.

Using a spring compress is the safest way to remove a coil spring. And the only way to install a coil spring. You can get a loaner from AutoZone or Advance. I like the compressor that looks like the one pictured below. I'm scared of the dog bone type with non-moving hooks.

Alright, I'll pick one up. I have to return an engine lift that I rented so hopefully they have one there.
