shifter linkage

new driver seat and i got her running smooth BUT it will not shift the arm just moves wherever and does nothing under the hood

HELP PLEASE i want to drive

 

Check the tranny fluid? Linkage hooked up to the tranny?

 

all hooked up and i can shift by reaching under the hood just not from inside

 

Auto or Manual? Check the bushings on the arms, they may be worn out.

 

manual. the problem is that it will moving the arm inside doesnt move anything underneath the hood.

 

How do you shift a manual transmission from underneath the hood??

 

just move the arms that are coming off of it

 

That would be an automatic....

Never seen a factory stick shift maverick, but aren't they like mustangs etc? They have a shifter thats bolted to a top plate on the transmission?

 

Andy it is a three on the tree.

Sounds like you might have the linkage bound between 2 gears.

 

how can i check for that?

 

I also didn't know they offered those in mavericks. lol

But like I said, never looked into that stuff, and haven't seen a manual in a maverick/comet. They've always been autos.

 

i am not a big fan of the tree on the tree. i will ultimately put it in the floor but til then i want to fix it so i can drive it around town.

 

Do the levers move at the base of the column when you go through the motions with the shifter?

 

no sir occasionally just a slight movement but they dont actually move anywhere if that makes sense

 

I have never torn apart a manual shift column. Maybe someone can post an exploded view of the column. I will try to see if I have something at home.
