Florida is full of great car shows. In my opinion, the classiest of them all is the Lake Mirror Classic, presented by Mercedes Benz, and held this Oct. 17-19, in Lakeland, Florida. This show has it all. This year, the Honored Guest is Bobby Allison of NASCAR fame. On Sat, he will be signing autographs. Three race cars will be on display including his #12 and Dale Earnhardt's #3. The show takes up the entire downtown of Lakeland and classics are parked everywhere. 100 Concours d'Elegance vehicles are parked around the lake. Inside the lake are antique wooden boats and amphibicars. Last year, I shared my 2 box lunches, which are provided to the participants, with Morgan(Maverick73) as we watched the waiters, lead by a bagpipe player, taking catered lunches to the 100 Concours folks, quite a sight. Registration is $35, which includes a fabulous display board with information supplied by you about your car, 2 box lunches, and goodie bag stuff. The display board is worth the fee. Go to www.lakemirrorclassic.com for more info. Come join me. Saturday, the 18th is the car show. Jim
Thanks, Mark. I fixed the spelling. David, yeah, the class difference is evident with the Concours cars(selected by the show committe) and the rest of the cars. Folks like Jim and Rick Schmidt(owners of NPD) usually make up the Concours section. Us Po' folks make up the rest. Last year I counted a dozen DeLoreons and at least as many Cobras, all in rows, a complete street(both sides) of Corvettes, and a huge section of Mustangs. The past 2 years, I have taken the Stang conv. This year, I may take the black XR7 for a change. Someday, I will take a Mav or Comet. Until then, someone bring one for me. Maybe Morgan and his Dad? Jim
We go to a show like that in Grosse Point Shores, Michigan, At the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, called Eyes On Design. All cars are by invitation only, very fancy, but well worth the price of the ticket, and it's for a good cause.
Remember, Joe, I've seen your car. With the engine mods and other things done to that car and the good paint it has, it's much more than a driver. You could take that car to any show I go to in Florida. Come on up! The show is not a snooty show. It is a classy show. Most of the cars there are good examples, but not concours ones. The owners I have met are all very nice and friendly. Jim
