AND it's not even running yet! Ok, I told everyone about the Boss block I bought. Well the thought was going through my mind...I can make over 1200 horsepower with this new block. Hmm...the other night I was having problems trying to fit my two turbos into this silly tiny Maverick engine bay. Then it hits me...if I just put one BIG turbo on instead of two smaller ones, this might be easier. So I log onto the Turboforums website and I come across an 80mm Borg Warner/Bullseye turbo. Brand new never used for a reasonable price...so now I'm changing gears again. We are going for MAXIMUM boost! If I can keep the heads and headgaskets together we are going to ROCK! :bananaman You guys working on turbo setups...let me see pictures of where you mounted yours...THANKS!

(How long before I back half this thing???)

It's that one surviving brain cell. He's struggling, but he has some great ideas!!!

I opened this thread because I thought I was going to read about a real he-man type drag racer taking out his automatic and putting a 4-speed tranny.

single is a little easier to mount. BUT, now I don't know what turbo you have, but fitting a 4-5" downpipe in there, plus the IC tubing...now that can be challenging especially on a tiny Maverick front chassis. There just ain't a lot of room in there. as you are finding out. Been in your shoes ;)

Another option...again not knowing what kind of compressor you are using, you might get away with no IC. And just run water injection. Also with a blow through carb, the fuel atomized into the intake helps cool the charge a little. I know I didn't run an IC...yes I had problems, but if I had known then what I know now, those problems would've been non-existent. They stemmed from exhaust pressures mostly. And fuel distribution problems. And a lousy compressor.

There was a fellow at the strip a while back that was racing a Monza, IIRC (vega or monza) with a PT88 I believe on a basically stock 400 SBC, but it had good heads. No intercooler, but was running a CSU carb. That thing was running 5.70's with no water/meth and only at 17 psi. Impressive. 780 HP at "only" 6400 RPM.

you could sneak onto some turbo mustangs board to see how they mount it, i know they make a single turbo kit for that car.

Hey Mavman...yeah, I had the same thought about the intercooler. It might be tiime to dump it. Something stuck with me when I saw three turbo cars at a local car show about a year ago. One of the guys told me the same exact thing...why use an intercooler, when you have a blow thru system (essentially a large evaporator). Especially out here in AZ where an intercooler might be a heat adder on some days! I'm even considering using E85 or the race fuel equivalent from VP (we use that in our 56 that we run). Anyhow, without the battery up there, the drivers side has a lot of room (hopefully enough) and I'm thinking that the 5" exhaust is going to exit right out the fender in front of the wheel. It gets here tomorrow and we'll take a look then.

    Hey Gene,

Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind...too much parasitic loss though. I've wanted to play with turbos again ever since I built a nitrous/turbo pinto sandrail back in the 80's. Of course that was a draw through system...this is going to be blow thru.
