There is a tube that runs down thru the column that controls the shift arms outside. First, check to make sure it's not in two gears-pull up on one of the shift arm and push down on the other....that should unlock it if it's in two gears. Then put both arms in neutral, you will be able to tell as the motor will no longer try to turn when you rock the car. Then try the shifter again. If it still doesn't move the arms out side, it is probably broken something in the column, or the tube itself is just worn out. It might be hard to find parts to rebuild the column. Your only choices then will be to either replace it with a known good column, or do the floor shift conversion....
in that case i am ultimately going to put it in the floor but until then i need a good collumn if i can find one close.
If the levers at the bottom of the column aren't moving with the shift lever then it is likely that there is something broken or worn out inside.
I got a good collumn today (thank you jack) but i think it is stuck in 2 or 3.. anyway the small arm(gears 2/3 i think) that connects to the tranny will not move it is stuck
nope my only car friend is in new mexico right now... and jammed is definitely what i am thinking just cant get it unjammed i am so close to taking a spin around the block
i also notice that the r/1 arm moves with no resistance and has no effect on the other end does anyone possible have a blown up pic of this?
thank you. and i figured it out. DOH the key was off but now it wont start and i know that you mentioned adjusting the ignition.... what does that mean exactly, and how do i do it?
yes sir.. thank you again.. it works great... its not in awesome driving condition only one seat bolted in and several other things like that but it does drive now and i drove it around the mile section that i live on a couple of times and do occasionally take it places even though i have yet to get a tag for it
