If it's a 3-speed, isn't it the same one as the Maverick tranny? I thought there was only one 3-speed. I'm far from a tranny expert, so never mind me if I'm wrong. :D

Toploader refers to the transmission case whereas all the gears and stuff go in through the top. All Maverick 3 speed transmissions are technically toploaders. However, they sure aint worth $150 in my opinion. The 4 speed toploader is the desired transmission to get. Ford also made a 4 speed in 77 which is actually a 3 speed plus overdrive. This is also stuffed in a toploader case. Unless you know what to look for, they look very similar to the 4 speed toploader.

I was gonna say I thought my three speed loaded from the top, but I wasn't sure enough about it so I deleted that part. :D Since you mentioned it, how do you tell the 3-speed+OD from the 4-speed?

They have a weird pattern on the tail shaft where the shifter bolts to and the cast number on the case will begin with D7

If anyone wants a 3 speed toploader let me know. It is behind a 200 I6. Going cheap...I have the floor shifter with it also.

Sometime soon I will be putting a T5 in my Comet GT and removing the 3 speed. It also has the factory floor shifter. Let me know because I can bring it to Carlisle or the Roundup. Going cheap also. If you already have a 3 speed and just want the factory floor shifter, you will need the tail shaft too. I will sell it either way. First $50 takes it.
