Find a '77 or later 200/250 with a hex shaped intake log. They have larger valves...1.75" up from 1.649", harden seats and larger intake log...1420 cc up from 1240 cc (pre '74)
I'd go to the junkyard and grab a used piston and head, slap them in there, and roll.. Maybe hone the cylinder, but if you can't feel anything by hand, heck with it... I don't think I'd waste the time or money getting that head worked on, when used ones are so plentiful and cheap (at least around here). If you were closer, I'd give you the parts (or a whole engine), but I just don't have time to box anything up and ship it.
These motors are very tuff, if it was mine, just dump in the used parts and go, it's not like it's a race car.
"doctoring" it is probably what im going to do. tho thers no way i'd be lucky enough to find a car old enough to have a 250, unless they made them after the late 90's or i found someone doing a v8 swap/ does napa or somewhere sell stock replacment pistons?
You shouldn't have a problem finding pistons. Not as common for those now, but they're still at most parts houses. The biggest problem is most of the kids behind the counter want to know what liter engine...
If they ask that question just tell them 4.1 liter. Its what everything is going by now, so its not really their fault, their just doing their job.
i was in napa asking for something for a 302 maverick. the kid punches it up on the computer and tells me he doesnt see a three-oh-two, just a three-point-three..
It's gotten to the point that when I go into the local Pep-Blows I just walk over to the computer, spin it around and look up my part, then tell the parts guys what number to go get The manager has offered me a job 4 times now but I keep telling him I find it difficult to work with the mentally challenged
Their pay sux and they have empty promises too, I know. Besides, who wants to be the one to sell someone a junk part? I go there now for the nuts and bolts, can't go wrong there unless you grab two or more without matching them up together...
I look it up on the internet at home, and walk in with a list of part numbers for them to go pick off the shelves. Saves so much time, and I don't have to describe, for the thousandth time, what size engine, front disk or drums, A/C, auto or manual??? Comet666 over in Sweden has learned to just email me a list of part numbers after looking them up on the O'Reilly website. Makes my job of buying and shipping them alot easier.
Well...I didn't mean that I did it at Pep Boys. There is only one Pep Boys around - and that's in Tulsa. I don't go to Tulsa unless I have too.
