C is for cleveland. That is where the foundry that cast those blocks was. W is for Windsor, same thing. Biggest difference in the 2 was in the heads. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in.:)

Ford had a variety of 352 cubic inch engines going in and out of their dealer service depts around 1970. They had to come up with ways to distinguish them from each other...
352: FE family. Related to 390, 428, 427 and others.
351w: They called it a 351 at first, so it wouldn't confuse mechanics that were also working on the 352 FE. They added the W when the other "351s" came out, to separate it from those.
351c: The W came from Windsor, where the engine was made, so they used the C for these 352s made in Cleveland. Made right along side the 302s that came out of Cleveland as well... So realize that a 302 is not a Windsor, like some folks call it.
351m: This is a bastardized engine. It is a 400 that has been destroked to 352. The 400 is a tall deck Cleveland engine. No one is totally sure where the M came from, but it is usually termed "modified". As it is a modified 351c or a modified 400, however you care to look at it.

Was this the info you were looking for, or did you want parts details?

Don gave you a good summary... Blocks are similar in many ways, heads are totally different.

    Edit:
Side note, it will come up... always does...

There is a 302 cube engine made only in Austrailia by Ford that is loosely called "302c". It is a 351c that has a short stroke crank that makes it 302 cubes. It is NOT made in Cleveland and the C is just used by hobbyists to note that the engine design is 351c for the most part.

Some folks use the W with 302 in order to make clear they are not refering to a Boss 302... Which is a 302 block with 351c heads!

    Confused yet?
