    i'm told the best shot for headers are the hookers. swapping the oil pan may be simple. is the oil dipstick in the front cover or in the side of the pan? if in the front cover, then just get a front sump pan and the correct pickup tube for the oil pump. unbolt the rear pickup tube and bolt on the front one. pan is just a bolt on replacement, too. if dipstick is in the side of the pan, then i think you will have to replace the front cover with one that has a provision for the dipstick. or just run without a dipstick. if the car doesn't burn oil, and doesn't leak oil, and you change the oil regularly, should not be a problem. first indication of low oil would be a flicker of the light (or gauge) when making a turn. usually happens when down 2 qts.

    I've heard of people drilling out the plug in the front cover where the dipstick goes on the newer engines when the change to a front sump. If you use vasoline on the drill bit that will catch most of the metal shavings.

    What part of TN are you in? I've only seen one maverick besides mine in the Knoxville area.

    Chad-

    Knoxville is where I just bought my project maverick at, just two weeks ago.

    I actually passed a light blue maverick on the interstate about 10 miles down the road from where I picked the car up from. I thought how odd that was after never seeing a maverick on the road for the past years and then seeing on just minutes after I bought mine.

    im from johnson city ,y7eah i just bought mine like 2 wks ago.i was just wondering if you all knew what catalog or comp i can get th eoil pan from,and about the headers im having a hard time finding them,i found some from summit but i heard that they wasnt right,the engine is a tight fit in there lol,my dipstick is on the side,i htoguht there might have been an after market pan for the swap,i think there should be for headers but im not certain just still searching.i kinda thought that the 302 and the 351 would be close i think the 351 is like 1 inch longer and wider but thats a big difference under the hood.i appreciate the help thoguh iuf oyu come across anything i can order exactly for the application im needing please reply.I think this sight is awesome,i havent seen any mavericks in years.i came across this one and i couldnt pass it up.my uncle use to have one years back and it was a grabber,every since then i have loved them.well thanks for the help guys.

    Any front sump oil pan should work just remember to get a pick up tube. I just went to a junkyard and got a front sump oil pan for my 5.0 to put in the maverick. My oil pan came from a truck but all that mattered was it was a front sump. You will need to get a new dipstick to put in the front cover.

    I dont know about the headers but there are several 351 mavericks on this board.

    oil pan and headers

    the only headers That I know fit the 351 for sure is the 6208 hookers and they are $400 in summit racing. any front sump 351 w oil pan will work. Do it once buy a 6 or 7 quart oil pan, and put a high volume high presure pump in it at the same time. a 4 quart oil pan is close to empty at 5500 rpms, not affecting presure but causing slight cavatation in the pump. moroso makes them so does Canton., make sure to buy the matching pickup;

    1974 Maverick I bought for $500 8 years ago when I was 16. Since then I have invested $30,000 into it.
    Check out www.autokrafters.com They also have heddman headers that will fit 351w for Maverick. Thom

    as far as i know theres no easy way to get hedders to fit with the 351w there is always something pitman arm and the tubes hiting i took the 88308 same as the 88300 but with the thermal coating
    had to have a one tube remade for the drivers side would not turn left very far and one on the other side rebent to give a little more room and had to dent one tube to get around the gear box but other then that they worked good thats with the shock towers cut back ill post some pics :D
