Is it freshly machined .030 over? if not, than it's not worth that much ($300-500), maybe next time start a fresh post with your question.......
Thanks for the info. An older guy and his two sons Thanks for the infor. An older guy and his two sons in their 20's were selling it on craigs list. They live about a mile away so I went to check it out. They were working on a couple of fox body mustangs with 302's and in one they were putting a supercharger and the other a turbo charger. Anyway they were asking 50 bucks so I took it. Now, who would you buy a stroker kit from to make this thing put out about 600hp? What would you stroke it to? Btw, this will be a street car. jamescomet
not that i mind the thread hijack, ive dont it a few times myself lol but just for your own sake of finding the answers your looking for you may want to start your own thread and conduct some research on your own across the web on diffrent 351W builds
I apologize for that. I was looking for an area to post it on and found this spot. You won't hear from me again on this thread. jamescomet
I would think the pump itself would work, as for brackets?? I saw something in the National Parts Depot catalog the other day, some spacers that would allow you to use 302 brackets on a 351W, some sorta conversion part.
This is the partial VIN of the car this engine originally came out of. The first number is the model year, 3 in this case which means this engine positively came out of a 1973 model year car. The second number is the plant at which the car was built at. N is the Norfolk, Virginia assembly plant. From what I can find, the Norfolk plant was building big cars, like Galaxies, until 1974. Then switched to building F150's from '74 on. 116073 means the car this engine came out of originally was the 16,703rd car scheduled for production at the Norfolk assembly plant for the '73 model year.
That bracket hanging off of the water pump on the driver side is likely the power steering bracket off of the Galaxie, but it is huge compared to what I remember being on my 302. The Galaxie bracket might have had something else hanging off of it, like a PS cooler.
so i'll have to get a pic but the block has a D@ part number stamped into it meanwhile the vin is a '73 build is that common? i guess the block was casted before the model year? or was it a '72 left over dropped in a 73? anyway i cleaned it up and regasketed a few things. pepboys gave me Big block chevy vallve covers so they'll have to wait now im just crossing my fingers that she'll fit lol
Yes, it's common. A block with a casting number before the year model is normal. The casting number won't change until there is a change in the design of the casting. For example, if a part was last changed in 72, and another change was not made until 77, the "D2xx" casting will be correct until 77 (or later) when the "D7xx" part was cast and used. Point being, a casting number before, even several years before, can be correct.
i just came in on a break. im trying to wrestly the old Y pipe off the set of stock v8 manifolds ive got...
