The shave job looks great!!! (y)
But the hammered finish looks like you were hammered when you finished it. Sorry...but you did ask.

clearancing the towers looks like a good idea, are you going to use any aftermarket type tower braces or the old ones? I hope the paint looks better in real life, the pics may not be doing it any justice.

Why the extra gusset at the bottom? If the welds are solid to the tower they are the gussets.

You're going to like working on the car now... nice job. :thumbs2: Mine are cut like this and I would recommend it even to someone staying with a 302-based motor... world of difference in spark plug changes.

I like the idea of the gusset at the bend there. Might be overkill, but the lower control arm is just inches away, so let's just say it won't hurt anything.

Hammered finish paint does look a bit like that guys. It doesn't photograph well... it is glossy, yet textured. If seen in person, I think you all would like it better. I have several things painted in hammered finish here ... my mailbox, wrought iron patio table and chairs, some other stuff too. The patio table was just about scrapped before I did this. It looks good 5 years later. Really durable and easy to touch-up if needed.

If not going for a factory look underhood, that hammered paint will look fine when it is all said and done... especially surrounded by all kinds of shiny new stuff. ;)

Looks good, what thickness of plate did you use? I'm going to do the same thing, just looking for ideas.

i was thinking of using the silver hammerite paint on my engine bay. still considering. the hammered effect does not show well in the pics.

Doc Hudson used the hammered stuff on his engine bay and it looked real good in person.

I know this is an older post, but thickness metal did you use weld back onto the tower wall? How far did you cut at the top and bottom? Since then have you had any other mods to support any integrity loss in the front end?
