I bought a bunch of manual tranny stuff 25 years ago at the scrap yard in hopes of converting. Since I bought my car back this Spring and started the resto I want to convert to a TopLoader like I wanted when I first had the car. The recent threads on this subject (Z Bars) reminded me that I had a box with the clutch pedal assembly stuff in it and I remembered seeing a pivot ball in there. Anyway, dug it out. Now, how do I know if I have the V8 stuff or the six cyl? I didn't know there was a difference way back when I pulled the stuff. I hope at least if I don't have the correct Z bar that I can use the rest of the stuff. How can I tell?

Me too, and I just finished drinking a V8. Or was I supposed to have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

Thanks for the answers guys. The parts do seem to match up to the tranny swap article exploded view on the site so I'm thrilled. I had no idea I had the right bar and had been contemplating how much $ is was going to cost me to get parts. I was even thinking I might have to stick with the C4 given the market lately...

Definately the V8 parts. They are two piece and the 6 cylinder are a one piece z-bar.

The frame mounting point will need a bushing.
You also appear to need the adjustment linkage from the Z-bar to the bellhousing.
All in all, not hard to get (or fab up) parts.

Do you have the pedals and linkage for the top end?
That is the other half, and getting expensive.
I fabbed my pedals up from the auto pedal set when I did my conversion, but that is more involved than fabbing up linkage.

Yeah, I have all the other stuff, I just dug out the Z bar, frame mount & ball cause I figured they were the hardest parts to find. I got all the pedal stuff at the same time and I know I have the pedals for sure, I have to go back up in the garage attic to make sure the two rods are still in there. I figured on getting new bushings and I think Mr. Hines said Mustang ones should work - I'm counting on that....
