I have a Fender from a 76 Stalion. It is all I have of the Stalion so don't think I'm trashing a 76 Stalion. I want to put this on my car but I need to get the black stripes off of the finder so I can get it painted. Does anyone know how I can get these almost 30 year old factory decals off of the finder. I have tried to us a razor blade and that will be very slow. Has anyone tried this?

you can try heating them up with a heat gun. if that doesn't work you can get an eraser wheel for a die grinder. One of them should get it off without damage.

With tough old decals and stripes, I hold a rag soaked with paint solvent on the decal until it softens. Then scrape the decal off with a razor blade scraper. Any glue left behind will also be softened by the solvent and can either be scraped or wiped off. The solvent will soften the paint too, but since you are going to paint the fender anyway it really won't matter.

    Listen to Jean....

    ...these other methods are tedious.
The eraser works, but it is still time
    consuming.

    Your paint/body supply shops carry
a chemical specifically for these jobs
but I am guessing her idea will work
    just as well.

Sometimes decals can etch the metal too. So if you dont put a primer/filler over it or enough coats of paint, you can sometimes still see the outline through your new paint. Check it good before you start spraying color. I have personally just sanded off the decals with a DA and 80 grit.

Soak the decal with WD-40, give it 20-30 minutes and it will peel right off.

if your going to repaint the whole fender why make it any harder to do? just strip the paint off the whole fender, i would and am personally. last thing i want is failed paint underneath my expensive paint
