I don't know how to weld in holes so after thinking about it. I decided this could work. I ground off the paint around the holes. I used 4 penny nails, not galvanized. They have a built in handle. I put them in the holes and welded them in place.
After the nail is in place, I used cutting pliers to take out most of it and grouind it smooth. Be carefull not to run up aginst the car before you have the nails snipped off
A tip a little birdie told me when welding in holes is to put a piece of copper behind the hole. I tried it and it works
Should have left them sticking out and we could have called you spike. Great ideal, I've seen it done like that before.
That is a good way to do it and a great tip for the novice welder that may worry about how to fill in the open hole. I, like John, use copper to back the hole. MIG doesn't stick to the copper. Copper also helps to distribute the heat on thin panel.
I use the copper backing method also.I like the nail Idea, only reason I havent used it is the whole dissimilar metal corrosion thing.Nails tend to be made of harder steel.Be it due to different alloy or heat treatment.Either way its a cool Idea
I tried the copper backing thing. I bought one just for that. I found it worked ok but I had a LOT more grinding than when I used a nail. I am hoping that the different metal problems won't jump up and bite me though.
