THe cable is working fine, it pulls the clutch fork, everything looks normal, it just very difficult to shift. Your idea about a spring makes sense, I think that's our next step is to pull the transmission. Thanks to everyone for their responses, I'll keep you updated

Like I said before this really sounds like pilot bearing/bushing or pressure plate like someone else mentioned before. I had cases that the new press plate was defective and also on my mustang it was the bearing on the flywheel that was frozen making the pilot spin even with clutch fully pressed down no gear would go in unless you'd shut the engine off put in gear and then start

A cable that is stretching will appear to work fine... You stated in your first post:

If that dosen't sound like a stretching cable (or some sort of bracket bending or something), I don't know what does. I've seen this several times before on Mustang forums with guys having the same problem, and it turned out to be some aftermarket cable they were using that kept stretching.

Good luck... will be interesting to hear what the cause of the problem is.

I was going to say the same thing. Problems arise from the aftermarket cables. Is your cable a factory ford one?

Well, this is getting discouraging! I kept tightening the cable to get the clutch to release, finally, I could shift. Went one block and the cable popped! Does everyone thing, it's just a cheap cable???? What's recommended?

Get a factory cable. That's what I have. Like others on here, maybe something bending that shouldn't. Or just a bad cable. Sorry to hear what happened.

This is soo the reason i went hydraulic! We've tried cables in several mustangs and never had luck with them. Always end up just going hydro. its really simple to do too :p Think about it

I did get both the cable setup & hydraulic setup. Went with the cable setup first though. Come to think about it, my firewall is not reinforced either. I may have to do that.

Went with several of your suggestions and put in a Ford Mustang cable. So far, so good. Have not even adjusted it once. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
